ALTON – After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Alton Food Truck Festival will feature eight new food trucks at this year’s event.

Thousands of visitors have flocked to Sauce Magazine’s Alton Food Truck Festival since it arrived in town in 2014. The Food Truck Festival returns this weekend – 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 28 – at the Liberty Bank Amphitheater in Alton with nearly two dozen choices. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. for the free event.

“We are delighted to be working with the amphitheater and with the town of Alton, bringing more trucks to the area,” said Allyson Mace, founder and editor of Sauce Magazine. “We hope everyone will come out and support them. It is a viable market for food trucks.

Foodies and people who just like to have fun trying new things will walk around the amphitheater grounds. Various food selections include Cajun, Greek, Mexican, Filipino, and Thai dishes, as well as global street food, gourmet sliders, ice cream, and other desserts, all made in an authentic way.

Alton’s riverside will be filled with all kinds of cuisine – from American classics at Pig On A Wing to Asian-inspired offerings at Seoul Taco. There are also plenty of sweet treats to choose from, including the return of favorite The Sweet Divine.

“We are delighted to bring this popular event back to the Liberty Bank Amphitheater this year,” said Amphitheater Commission Chairman Robert Stephan. “This event has grown year on year, becoming the biggest food truck festival in the Midwest outside of Chicago. We expect this year’s seventh edition to be the biggest yet.

Over 6,000 people attended the festival in 2019.

“The Alton Food Truck Festival continues to be a highlight of the summer for the entire region,” said Amphitheater Commissioner Dale Blachford. “We look forward to welcoming people to the Alton River for an afternoon of great food and great music.”

The Alton Amphitheater Commission will be offering a special $ 9 draft beer for a 22-ounce aluminum mug filled with their choice of draft beer. After the initial purchase, the cups can be refilled for $ 8.

Other drinks will also be available in aluminum bottles. Non-alcoholic drinks – including bottled water, tea, and a variety of sodas – will also be sold.

“The Alton Food Truck Festival has turned out to be one of the most popular events on the calendar each year,” said Amphitheater Curator Michelle Brooks. “This family event is sure to be a huge success this year again. “

The Alton Food Truck Festival is part of St. Louis ‘premier food truck network founded and made famous by Sauce Magazine with its Food Truck Fridays at St. Louis’ Tower Grove Park.

“I saw a trend happen in 2010,” Mace reminded The Telegraph. “After St. Louis had several trucks on the road, I felt the urge to visit them all. Unfortunately, they wandered all over town and it turned out to be difficult to visit them all.

So she decided to invite all the mobile restaurants to one place which in 2011 became Sauce Food Truck Fridays. The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month from May to October at Tower Grove Park.

Sauce is the sole organizer of the biggest food truck festivals in the region.

In 2016, during the sixth season of Sauce Food Truck Friday, the series saw a record crowd of 25,000 people. The Sauce Food Truck Friday series also received national recognition from the industry publication FOLIO, with its FOLIO award and + min FAME for the best regional magazine event nationwide in 2012 and 2013.
