A new foodie destination opens in Sheffield this week, bringing together local independent street vendors, bars and live entertainment.

The Sheffield Plate, which spans two floors in Orchard Square in the city center, will feature dishes from around the world, including cuisines from Sri Lanka, Romania, Peru, Thailand and Portugal, as well as all over the world. UK.

Madusha Wettasinghe, owner of Colombo Street Food, said: “We are really excited to be part of Sheffield Plate which marks the opening of our third outlet.

“We just know from the variety of cuisine on offer – as well as the ambiance of the place itself – that this will be a very popular choice for so many people in Sheffield.”

Located in the former Evans womenswear store, the street food outlet is the brainchild of Market Asset Management (MAM) and the owners of Orchard Square, London & Associated Properties (LAP).

Hayden Ferriby, Commercial Director at MAM, said: “After months of hard work, it’s fantastic to now open Sheffield Plate as the inner city vibrancy returns after the pandemic.

“The food hall is perfectly located to not only serve existing buyers, but also increase footfall by attracting new visitors who will come for food, bars and a mix of live entertainment every week.”

The venue will complement existing independent food retailers in Orchard Square, including Terrace Goods and Macpot, which provide customers with food and drink on an outdoor patio overlooking the square.

John Heller of LAP said: “We are delighted to welcome Sheffield Plate to the Orchard Square retail, food and entertainment range.

“Showcasing a diverse range of independent food and entertainment to suit all tastes, Sheffield Plate will complement and build on our current offering for customers, creating valuable, inclusive and safe places that bring communities together.

“As a destination, it will do more to boost footfall, thereby supporting the local and regional economy as shoppers return to the city.”

Sheffield Plate will open on September 24 with live music and entertainment and offer an ongoing program of events ranging from weekly quizzes to live music and spoken word, giving local artists the chance to showcase their talents.
