The owners welcome creativity and unique flavors when patrons prepare their hot dogs.
DULUTH, Minn.- A new food truck in Twin Ports is pushing the boundaries of what happens on the hot dog.
âHot dogs are fun. You can just put anything on a hot dog, âCory Netland said. “We just have a book full of recipes and ideas.”
So what is UpDawg?
This is the brand new Twin Ports food truck launched by Netland and David Fitch, college friends with a passion for food and fun.
âWe were two guys coming out of school pretty cool,â said co-founder Fitch. âThen I had an idea and not much more beyond that. “
âAnd the training process and learning to think like a business owner and grow in that entrepreneurial spirit has made us stronger in terms of character, I think,â he said.
It’s even written in tattoos on their arms – the couple are eating sleep and breathing ideas for making unique hot dogs.
“Usually they come in late at night, when I try to fall asleep I think, ‘what can I put on? “Ooh, i can do something with naan, that will be good,” said co-founder Netland.
“And then I’ll tell David and he’ll really like the idea.” And we’re going to exchange ideas and all of a sudden we’ll have this masterpiece, âNetland said.
They say nothing is off the table. They welcome creativity and unique flavors when customers prepare their hot dogs.
You can even submit an idea to them, and maybe see it on the menu.
âI think a hot dog is super accessible to people,â Netland said. “Like, it’s something that everyone is familiar with and when you start adding other cheeses or other ingredients like you can imagine what it’s going to look like.”
After a year of marinating at the height of the pandemic, Cory and David are excited to show off their food truck.
âIt’s kind of a tribute to all the places in Duluth that David and I really love,â Netland said. âSo there are a lot of Easter eggs and hidden images here. “
And they can’t wait to bring their creative hot dogs to even more Northlanders.
âThe fact that we’ve really gotten to this point and now we’re in business and now we can honestly do what is the easiest part and share our amazing creations with everyone,â Fitch said, âand see where this business is taking us now that we have finally taken off and started publicly.
