Patel chairs 6th meeting of BRICS Culture Ministers

Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State (I // C) for Culture and Tourism, Government of India recently hosted the 6th BRICS Culture Ministers Meeting. Delegates from the Ministries of Culture of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa participated in the meeting.

A discussion was held for the advancement and expansion of cultural activities among BRICS countries under the theme of linking and harmonizing cultural synergy.

Patel addressed the participants of the meeting and presented India’s perspective to strengthen cultural cooperation within the BRICS. Taking note of the Covid 19 conditions that the world has been facing for a year and a half, he showed his concerns about the harmful effects of the pandemic on all areas of life, including the cultural dimension. He commented on the use of digital techniques and its acceptability under current conditions.

Patel focused on collaborations in the field of online exchange of cultural experiences on knowledge of tangible and intangible heritage between BRICS countries. He underlined the importance of the role of culture in establishing a dynamic international humanitarian dialogue.

He further underlined the need to protect our tangible and intangible cultural heritage through mutual aid and support within the framework of the BRICS in addition to respecting the UNESCO conventions in force. Patel also mentioned the relevance of the India theme for the BRICS presidency “[email protected]: Intra-BRICS cooperation for continuity, consolidation and awareness within the framework of the promotion of BRICS cultural cooperation.
