The reproduction of the world famous ‘Gypsy Girl’ mosaic, the stolen pieces of which were returned from the United States to the southern province of Gaziantep after years of efforts, was sent to the US state of Ohio on Saturday. . A ceremony was held on Saturday for the replicas of the “Gypsy Girl” mosaic in front of the Zeugma mosaic museum. Speaking at the ceremony, Gaziantep Governor Davut Gül explained that Gaziantep’s artifacts are meticulously unearthed.
Mentioning the latest works in the city, he said that a reception area has been built in the ancient city of Karakamış. The governor noted that the construction works of a museum consisting of artefacts from Karakamış are also continuing.
According to the governor’s statements, another reception area has also been built in the ancient town of Zeugma, as well as an 8-kilometer (5-mile) tourist route so that people can easily reach the town.
“In addition, the remaining part of the completion of the restoration of Rumkale, the pearl of the Euphrates, has been auctioned this year,†he added.
These are the most important works of the Roman, Hittite, Ottoman, Seljuk and Republican Anatolian periods, said the mayor of Gaziantep, Fatma Åžahin.
