House of Fu review: We tried the superb Japanese restaurant in Leeds and can’t wait to go back – Megan Banner

Have you ever seen a restaurant with a better Instagram account? – It just looks tasty.

Since following the House of Fu account, we can’t wait to try authentic food in a satisfying way, and for those who love a good aesthetic, the modern, simplistic interiors are the perfect place to dine.

House of Fu boss Ben Iley, 46, opened his restaurant in The Headrow, Leeds, West Yorkshire in July, bringing his ‘Tokyo obsession’ to Leeds.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of ramen and Japanese-inspired dishes – with the option of indulging in some badly sung karaoke afterwards on the 1st floor.

Karaoke booths for up to 8 people have been launched upstairs which you can attend on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, they have had a ‘good response’ so far.

Aesthetics win out for first impressions, we never wanted to eat somewhere more from first glance.

We can’t wait to return to House of Fu

It’s hard to miss the restaurant’s bright orange color scheme, complete with neon sign, which is inspired by Tokyo’s modern urban interior design.

As for the food, wow. We tried Fu Katsu (moderately priced at £13), we can only imagine if you picked this place and dropped it off in central Tokyo, it wouldn’t be out of place – the flavors were amazing.

There was so much food that we could have shared a dish.

We also shared a side, Gyoza of the week (£5), which was lamb with yoghurt dip – for someone who doesn’t usually eat lamb, it was delicious.

Only regret was that we visited on a Tuesday night so didn’t get a chance to show off the advanced karaoke skills – excuse for another visit?

I highly recommend House of Fu and can’t wait to return.
