Oiche Chultúir [Eng: Culture Night] is a national moment, celebrating all that makes up the richness and diversity of culture in Ireland today, connecting people to local and national cultural activities and aims to pave the way for continued engagement.

Oíche Chultúir has evolved into a collaborative experience with an emphasis on opening doors, welcoming people to new spaces and discovering different experiences, which means that Culture Night continues to belong to all of us.

At Ard Mhacha we are fortunate to have an abundance and variety of cultures that are the envy of many other towns in Ireland. The city has an international reputation for its exceptional cultural heritage and artistic offering and the new Aonach Mhacha Cultural Arts Center at The Shambles is the latest expression of a thriving and vibrant cultural scene.

Culture Night invites everyone, everywhere, on a merry night to discover and celebrate all that is our culture today. Artistic and cultural organizations and venues of all shapes and sizes, from independent art studios and spaces to national cultural institutions, are extending their opening hours to allow increased access to the public.

Aonach Mhacha is no exception and we open our doors at 17e of this month to allow visitors from across the island of Ireland to taste a little of what Ard Mhacha has to offer. We will be offering visitors free tours of our amazing new Irish language and cultural arts center, where people can tour our theater, media room and conference facilities with live music, cinema and cultural exhibits . Take your time and relax in our Caifé Mhacha or browse our gift shop full of gift ideas from local artists and artisans.

Learn the history of the Irish language in Ard Mhacha from its early Celtic origins to the rebirth of Irish as a community language in the 21st century – an unbroken 2,000-year continuum of Irish spoken in Cathedral City .

Scéal Ard Mhacha is a new cultural heritage offering that has excited many people in the cultural tourism sector. This multimedia offering will give visitors to Armagh City a glimpse of the city’s original myths and an illustration of many of the significant events that have shaped our city over the millennia.

Music will be plentiful and diverse during Culture Night at Aonach Mhacha and you will have a bit of everything from folk to jazz and traditional to classical, there will be something for everyone.

We will also internationalize with Bulgarian folk music and dances.

Culture Night takes place because many people share a vision and enthusiasm for enjoying, celebrating and promoting creativity and culture. Its diversity is reflected in the scope and range of events and the people who attend – and it aims to continue to connect with both engaged audiences as well as expand its reach to those who don’t always have access.
