Simple Ayurvedic face masks you must try at home

Beauty rituals and Ayurveda go hand in hand in India. Growing up, we all had to try natural remedies for healthy skin such as besan (chickpea flour), multani mitti, dried flower petals, neem leaves and many more.

While we would love to try variations of homemade face masks, the options can often be limited due to seasonal ingredients and lack of know-how in combining ingredients. Ayurvedic practitioner Dr Aparna Padmanabhan shared a list of simple, Ayurvedic, bowel-friendly face masks that can be made in a short time and in a few simple steps.

Yogurt and chickpea facial mask

* Yogurt 1 teaspoon
* 1/4 teaspoon chickpea flour
* A pinch of turmeric
* Mix and apply on the face
* Leave on for 10 minutes
* Wash off with lukewarm water

Honey and chickpea facial mask

* Honey 1 teaspoon
* Chickpea flour ½ teaspoon
* A pinch of turmeric
* Mix and apply on the face
* Leave on for 10 minutes
* Wash off with lukewarm water

Oatmeal and milk facial mask

* Oatmeal (quantity of your choice)
* Milk (for a smooth consistency)
* Mix and apply on the face
* Wash half dry

Whole wheat and milk face mask

* Whole wheat flour 1 teaspoon
* Milk / almond milk (quantity of your choice)
* Mix well into a paste
* Apply to the face and leave to act for 10 minutes
* Wash off with lukewarm water

Honey and lemon

* Honey 1 teaspoon
* A few drops of lemon juice
* Apply on the face
* Wash off after 10 minutes.

People with sensitive skin should avoid this recipe.

Idli Paste Facial Mask

* There is dosa or idli dough left over
* A pinch of turmeric powder
* Mix well and apply on the face
*Rinse

Bananas and honey

* Bananas
* A little honey
* ½ teaspoon of rice flour or chickpea flour
* Mix well and apply on the face
*Rinse

Rice and cucumber facial mask

* Rice flour, cucumber juice
* Mix well
* Apply on the face
* Rinse with water

Milk cream facial mask

* Cream of milk after boiling
* Apply directly to the face

Recommended for dry skin beauties only.

Special recommendations:

Dosa Paste Facial Mask

* Traditional dosa paste (without yogurt or soda) mixed with a pinch of turmeric
* Store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days
* Use only on the face and body

Papaya juice applied directly to the skin

On a ripe banana, mashed with honey and applied to the face

Lemon and honey mixed and applied
